Ajax fan sneakily steals Antony’s shirt in front of group of children

No shame, fair play

An Ajax fan has gone viral after he was caught stealing Brazilian winger Antony’s shirt at the end of the game in front of a group of children.

Fresh from scoring the winner four minutes from time (and getting sent off in the 94th minute) against major rivals Feyenoord in De Klassieker, Antony went to show his appreciation to supporters.

As he walked over to the fans at the Johan Cruyff Arena, the 22-year-old took his shirt off, with the intention of clearly giving it to a lucky fan.

As he embraced supporters, one fan saw it as an opportunity to claim a match day souvenir.

With the shirt dangling in one hand, the fan proceeded to prise the shirt out of Antony’s hands.

Despite initially resisting, the Brazilian, presumably because he thought it was a small child trying to tug the shirt away, eventually gave up and released his grip.

The fixture in Amsterdam had to be delayed following a fire that had broken out in the stands in the run-up to kick-off after fans behind the Ajax goal accidentally set their banners on fire with flares.

After some extensive work from stewards and safety officers inside the ground, the game was eventually able to go ahead, with no injuries sustained to anyone.

Ajax were able to come from behind twice after Sebastian Haller responded to Luis Sinisterra’s eighth minute strike. Guss Til then put the away side back in front four minutes later, but late second-half goals from Dusan Tadic and Antony were enough for the win.

Erik ten Hag’s side remain top of the Eredivisie, ahead of closest challengers PSV Eindhoven by two points. The win helped them overcome some of the disappointment of their midweek Champions League exit at the hands of Benfica, who beat them by a single goal to progress to the quarter-finals.
