Harvey Weinstein reportedly going blind and losing teeth in prison

Charlie Herbert

He is currently serving 23 years in prison for rape and sexual assault

Harvey Weinstein’s lawyer has said that the disgraced film producer is going blind and has lost several teeth in prison. It’s after Weinstein appeared virtually in a New York court to fight extradition to Los Angeles, where he has been indicted on 11. counts of sexual assault.

Norman Effman, Weinstein’s lawyer, said that the 69-year-old did not want to be extradited yet so that he could receive treatment for health issues. Mr Effman said that Weinstein is “scheduled for some dental procedures to save his teeth,” and that he had already lost four.

Mr Effman also said that Weinstein is “almost technically blind at this point,” and suffers from cardiac and back issues as well.

Weinstein is facing extradition to LA as he faces 11 charges of sexual assault charges there, according to the Los Angeles Times.

He is currently serving a 23-year sentence for sexually assaulting Mimi Haleyi, a former production assistant, and raping Jessica Mann, a former aspiring actor. He was found guilty in Manhattan in February 2020.

He and his legal team are appealing against the charges.

If he is found guilty of the charges facing him in California then it is likely that he will spend the rest of his life in prison, even if he wins his appeal against the New York convictions.

Another hearing for the extradition to LA has been scheduled for 30 April, when Judge Kenneth Case will rule on the extradition after granting Weinstein and his team one week to challenge it.
