Dentist issues warning over ‘Vaper’s Tongue’ this Christmas

Maybe this is your sign to stop

It’s believed that around three million adults across the UK vape and if you’re one of them then maybe this will be your reason to stop.

While there’s growing evidence which suggests puffing on your vape can be seriously bad for your health, the numbers of those using them appears to be growing almost every day.

Although vaping is said to be better for your health than traditional cigarettes, the chemicals you inhale via the vapour are still said to cause lung disease and heart problems.

As if that wasn’t enough to turn your stomach, a dentist has now issued a warning to vapers on what they have coined ‘Vaper’s Tongue’.

‘Vaper’s Tongue’ is a condition which causes a vaper to lose the ability to taste vape juice.

This is believed to last from a couple of hours to a couple of days, however some are saying it can stick around for weeks.

While many see ‘Vaper’s Tongue’ as an inconvenience, Dr Abdul Azizi, the Principle Dentist at Harley Private Dentist clinic, has explained that this can actually be far more serious.

Dr Azizi said: “Vaping poses several potential dangers to oral health. Firstly, the heat and chemicals in e-liquids can lead to dry mouth.

“Secondly, nicotine in e-cigarettes can constrict blood vessels, impairing gum health and potentially leading to tooth loss.

“Additionally, the chemicals in e-liquids, including flavouring agents, may irritate oral tissues, causing discomfort and inflammation. Vaping can also contribute to tooth staining and wear, while increased teeth grinding due to nicotine stimulation can lead to dental problems.”

Dr Azizi does advocate for stopping vaping entirely but if you’re not willing to do that just yet he urges vapers to make sure they’re brushing their teeth twice a day, flossing daily, and visiting the dentist on the regular.

On top of that, Dr. Azizi has told vapers to make sure they stay hydrated to lessen the chance of dry mouth and to help promote saliva production.
