Sherlock Holmes 3 has been confirmed, and it has got a release date

Wil Jones

There are many, many different screen versions of Sherlock Homes.

Benedict Cumberbatch of course made his name starring in Sherlock. And on American TV, Johnny Lee Miller has appeared in six seasons and counting of Elementary.

On the big screen though, the most notable version of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s classc stories have been the all-action Guy Ritchie directed films. Starring Robert Downey Jr as Holmes, and Jude Law as Dr Watson, they updated the stories to include more punching, CGI, and whooshing camera movements. 2009’s Sherlock Holmes was followed by 2011’s A Game of Shadows, which brought Stephen Fry into the fold as Sherlock’s brother Mycroft.

That looked to be the end of the series – Guy Ritchie moved on to make King Arthur and the live action Aladdin remake (and he’s also going back to cockney gangster movies). But now a third movie has been announced.

Warner Bros confirmed that the threequel will be released on Christmas Day 2020. We don’t have any more details at the moment – no plot or title. It’s not even been confirmed that Downey Jr or Law will even be back, though we can’t really imagine they’d be making t without them.
