The Glee Club is reopening its doors

A new generation of students could soon be taking centre stage in the world of Glee, after Disney+ and Hulu confirmed plans to revive the hit musical series.

The project is moving forward with 20th Television, the studio responsible for the original show, returning to produce the reboot.

The announcement comes almost 10 years after the series wrapped up its six-season run on Fox in 2015.

Neither the cast nor the production team has been officially revealed though, with The Hollywood Reporter reporting that agreements with the creatives involved are still being worked out.

The reboot has a script, but no release date yet

Ryan Murphy, who helped create the original series alongside Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan, is expected to play a part in the revival.

He had already hinted that a return was possible earlier this year, suggesting the show's impact on younger audiences made the idea worth exploring.

“For many, many people now in their 20s, they grew up on that show and it meant something to them. The music meant something. So, let's kick it around and see what we get,” Murphy said in August.

The project appears to have made progress since then. In late September, Murphy revealed to Entertainment Tonight that he had finished writing a script with Falchuk and Brennan, the pair who worked with him on the original series.

Whether the revival will bring back any of the original performers is another matter. Lea Michele, Chris Colfer, Darren Criss and Jane Lynch were among the familiar faces in the first series, but none has been confirmed for the new project.

Disney+ and Hulu have yet to announce when the reboot will arrive.
