Sunny and Jess return for Unforgotten series 7

Sunny Khan and Jess James are set to take on another cold case, with ITV confirming that Unforgotten will be back for a seventh series in 2027.

The detective drama first arrived on screens in 2015, with Nicola Walker playing DCI Cassie Stuart alongside Sanjeev Bhaskar as DI Sunny Khan.

The pair worked to solve crimes that had remained unsolved for years, often uncovering secrets buried alongside the victims.

Following Walker's departure in series four, Sinead Keenan joined the programme as DCI Jess James, becoming Sunny's new partner.

Bhaskar and Keenan are now preparing to return for the next chapter of the series.

ITV has given fans an early look at what's ahead, unveiling an image of the two detectives sitting across an interrogation table.

Peaky Blinders and Happy Valley stars join the show

Chris Lang, who created the show and serves as an executive producer, said he was pleased to have the chance to continue the story.

He also welcomed the opportunity to revisit Sunny, Jess and the wider team, thanking viewers for sticking with a drama that asks them to follow complicated plots and consider challenging themes.

Lang ended his message by looking ahead to the new episodes, writing: "Roll on series 7!!"

The latest instalment will also introduce a fresh group of characters, played by a mix of familiar television faces.

Sophie Rundle, known for Peaky Blinders, has joined the cast, alongside Paul Kaye, Jo Hartley and Nicholas Burns.

Natalie Simpson, who appeared in Outlander, and Happy Valley actor Andrew Tiernan are also confirmed, with further announcements still to come.
