Ricky Gervais ditched NTAs afterparty to cuddle his cat after big win

‘This is the cutest thing ever’

Ricky Gervais has endeared himself to his fans even more, by ditching the National Television Awards afterparty in favour of cuddling his cat Pickles while watching some telly.

The After Life creator – whose Netflix show won the best comedy prize during Thursday’s ceremony – opted for unwinding with his fury friend, rather than charging into the night with other celebrities, ending his evening – like so many of us do when the weather turns – on the couch.

Sharing a very cosy-looked picture on Twitter, Gervais joked: “Out partying, celebrating my big #NTA win. Definitely not home, watching telly, cuddling the cat.”

He also shared a second picture, not long after he accepted his prize, with another top dog. A sniffer dog he spotted on the way out and couldn’t resist a selfie with.

“Thank you #NTAs & to everyone who voted. Best fans in the world. Oh, and thanks to Jack the sniffer dog for the selfie,” he wrote.

“Congratulations on the NTA! Enjoy your night in with the cat,” replied one follower, while a second wrote: “Oh wow this is the cutest thing ever!!’

Another fan added: “No better place to be.”

Gervais kept his acceptance speech brief, admitting he was  “genuinely shocked” to win, saying: “My feet are killing me.”

He later thanked fans for their support, and shared the poster for the now award-winning third series of the drama, which follows Gervais’ character Tony Johnson as he deals with depression following his wife’s death.

“Just like to say again how blown away I am by the love and support for #AfterLife,’ the comedian added. ‘Thanks so much for watching & then voting. Best fans in the world.”

Gervais recently revealed that he turned down the chance to make a fourth season of the show, after Netflix gave him the option of doing that or “something new”.
