EastEnders star takes centre stage in Lidl’s festive Slade parody

The race to unveil the UK's Christmas adverts is under way, and Lidl has brought in a familiar face to help launch its 2026 campaign.

Shaun Williamson, best known for playing Barry Evans in EastEnders, is at the centre of a festive reworking of one of Slade's biggest hits.

Titled Lidl Christmas Everybody, the advert puts a new spin on ‘Merry Christmas Everybody’, with Williamson appearing in a Lidl Christmas jumper as he delivers bags of festive shopping to his neighbours.

The deliveries include seasonal staples such as turkeys, Brussels sprouts and mince pies, alongside the supermarket's chocolate gonks.

'Christmas is all about bringing people together'

Williamson is not the only recognisable face appearing in the campaign. Former football commentator Chris Kamara, Capital FM presenter Kemi Rodgers and comedian Abi Clarke also make appearances.

The actor, who played Barry on the BBC soap between 1994 and 2004, said the opportunity appealed to him because of what Christmas represents.

"Christmas is all about bringing people together, having fun and spreading a little festive cheer, so I jumped at the chance to help Lidl kick off the festive season in style!"

He also spoke about the fun of putting a different spin on a song that has become a familiar part of the festive season.

"Putting a fresh spin on such an iconic Christmas classic was brilliant fun, and I hope it gets everyone smiling, singing along and feeling that little bit of Christmas magic!"
