Rebecca Loos breaks silence on David Beckham affair after Netflix documentary

Steve Hopkins

‘He is portraying himself as the victim’

Rebecca Loos has hit out at David Beckham saying the former footballer needs to “take responsibility” in the wake of his Netflix documentary that touched on her affair allegations.

In 2004, Beckham was accused of having an affair with Rebecca, 46, who alleged she had a relationship with him while he was playing for Real Madrid.

The former Manchester United star dismissed the allegations as “ludicrous” at the time.

Almost 20 years later, Beckham and his wife, Victoria, seemingly addressed the rumours in his documentary which aired on 4 October, with Posh saying how the allegations impacted their relationship.

She said the couple “were against each other.”

In her first interview since the series aired, Loos branded Beckham’s response to the claims, as “it’s all, ‘poor me'” and suggested he needed “to take responsibility.”

In an interview with The Mail on Sunday, she said: “He can say whatever he likes of course and I understand he has an image to preserve, but he is portraying himself as the victim and he’s making me look like a liar, like I’ve made up these stories.”

In one episode of the series, director Fisher Stevens ask Beckham how he dealt with “multiple tabloid stories” breaking news of the alleged affair.

Beckham, a dad of four, replied: “There were some horrible stories that were difficult to deal with. It was the first time that me and Victoria had been put under that kind of pressure in our marriage.”

Victoria admitted to Fisher that it was “100 percent” the “hardest period for us”, and suggested it felt the “the world was against us.”

The former Spice Girl said: |And here’s the thing; we were against each other, if I’m being completely honest.

“You know, up until Madrid sometimes it felt like us against everybody else. But we were together. We were connected. We had each other. But when we were in Spain, it didn’t really feel that we had each other either. And that’s sad. I can’t even begin to tell you how hard it was and how it affected me.”

Loos told The Mail that Beckham had “indirectly” suggested she was to blame for making Victoria “suffer.”

In his documentary, Beckham spoke about feeling isolated and alone in Spain; not speaking the language and “I didn’t have my family.”

“Every time that we woke up we felt you know, there was something else and you know, I think we both felt at the time that we were, not losing each other, but drowning,” he recalled of that time in his life.

“There were some days that I would wake up and think how am I gonna go to work? How am I gonna walk onto that training pitch? How am I going to look as if nothing’s wrong. I felt physically sick every day. When I opened my eyes. ‘How am I going to do this?’

When pressed on how he and Victoria got through the difficult patch, Beckham said he didn’t know, but said “Victoria is everything to me.”

“To see her hurt was incredibly difficult. But we are fighters. And at that time we needed to fight for each other, we needed to fight for our family. And what we had was worth fighting for. But ultimately it’s our private life.”

Former tabloid, New of the World broke the story of Loos claims she had an affair with Beckham in April 2004 while she was assigned to look after him following his transfer from United.

She suggested the pair’s affairs lasted four months.
