Johnny Depp is now appealing the court’s decision to award Amber Heard $2m in damages

It’s still going…

Johnny Depp has filed an appeal on the Court’s decision to award ex-wife Amber Heard damages totalling $2m just days after her legal team filed their own appeal.

While Depp, 58, was awarded damages of $10.4 million following the public defamation trial, Heard’s legal team have continued to push against the verdict. Earlier this week, her counsel filed an appeal that spoke on how they “believe the court made errors that prevented a just and fair verdict consistent with the First Amendment.”

At the time, Depp’s legal representation said they “remain confident in our case and that this verdict will stand.”

But according to Forbes, the Alice in Wonderland star has had a change of heart, with his team filing the appeal on Friday in Fairfax, Virginia.

It explains: “Plaintiff and counterclaim-defendant John C Depp, II, by counsel, hereby appeals to the court of appeals of Virginia from all adverse rulings and from the final judgment order of this circuit court entered on June 24, 2022.”

Just a few weeks ago, Judge Penney Azcarate dismissed Heard’s claim of improper juror service after it was revealed that one juror’s had his son fill in; luckily, they had the same name and lived at the same address.

“We are therefore appealing the verdict. While we realise today’s filing will ignite the Twitter bonfires, there are steps we need to take to ensure both fairness and justice.”

But Judge Azcarate said that the claims were “irrelevant” and there was no sign of “fraud or wrongdoing.”

She explained: “The juror was vetted, sat for the entire jury, deliberated, and reached a verdict. The only evidence before this Court is that this juror and all jurors followed their oaths, the Court’s instructions, and orders.

“This Court is bound by the competent decision of the jury.”
