House of the Dragon fans are only just realising actor has a super famous Dad

It’s not just his dad who’s famous

‘House of the Dragon’ fans are realising that one of the new actors in the show has got some pretty impressive acting heritage in his family.

The HBO series has reached its halfway point, with episode six of ten airing on Sunday night. This means we’re getting the much-talked-about time jump as the story leaps forward a decade.

So, a whole host of new faces have joined the cast to play the older versions of characters we got to know in the first five episodes.

One of these new names is Ty Tennant, who plays the teenage Aegon Targaryen, a character we have so far only seen as a toddler.

The name Tennant is of course an iconic one in the world of British television. And yes, Ty is the son of the Tenth Doctor himself, David Tennant.

But it’s not just Ty’s dad who’s famous for his travels in space in time. His mum, Georgia Tennant, starred opposite David in a 2009 episode of the sci-fi series, which is how the pair met.

For those of you who haven’t yet seen Ty in his new role, you can get your first glimpse in the episode six teaser below.

Ty is Georgia’s son from a previous marriage, and has been adopted by David. The acting genes don’t stop there though.

Ty’s grandad – and Georgia’s father – is none other than Peter Davison, who played the Fifth Doctor from 1981 to 1984.

It is yet another sprinkling of Doctor Who flavour in Westeros, with Ty joining Matt Smith on the show.

Smith shot to stardom in 2010 when he played the Eleventh Doctor, and has so far shocked and delighted viewers in equal measure in his role as Daemon Targaryen in Westeros.

Fans on social media were quick to voice their excitement about Ty’s famous parents.

On Twitter, one fan tweeted: “David Tennant’s son is going to be in House of the Dragon alongside Matt Smith, so is the whole show going to turn out to be a different timeline on a Doctor Who special lol.”

Another viewer added: “So House of the Dragon not only has a Doctor, but they also bagged a Doctor’s son?”

“Hold on this show has the 11th Doctor and the son of the 10th Doctor?” questioned a third fan.

Someone else tweeted: “First Matt Smith now David Tennant’s son. Doctor Who universe is coming.”

Ty’s introduction to House of the Dragon is just one part of a major cast shakeup in the series.

The other significant cast changes in the show are Emma D’Arcy and Olivia Cooke jumping into the roles of Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen and Alicent Hightower, previously played by Milly Alcock and Emily Carey respectively.

We’ve also said goodbye to Nova Fouellis-Mose, who plays Laena Velaryon, and Theo Tate, who stars as Laenor Velaryon.

They will be replaced by Nanna Blondell and John MacMillan respectively as the adult versions of their characters.

Co-creator Ryan Condal told Insider that the decision for a time jump was made “early on” in production.

He said: “It’s a conceit but I think it does work, having watched it a bunch of times.

“The people that are truly children in this are the ones that get recast. And the people that are already adults when we meet them, we age them up through hair and makeup and sometimes the actors change their voice.”
