First trailer for Harry Potter reunions released

The special is set to air on New Year’s Day

The first trailer for the Harry Potter reunion, Return to Hogwarts, has been released, and it looks like it’s going to be an emotional watch for fans of the popular wizarding franchise.

In the heartwarming trailer, we can see stars Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson chatting about the film, their memories of playing Harry, Ron and Hermione and speaking about what the story means to them.

Watson, who of course played Hermione in the record-breaking franchise, can be seen wiping away a tear at one point as she sits down with Grint to reminisce about the films.

Over the trailer, we can hear Watson say: “It feels like no time has passed — and loads of time has passed.”

Radcliffe admits to being frightened by “the implication that the most meaningful thing in our life was done” but said that seeing everyone at the reunion made him realised it was never over.

Watson added: ”When things get really dark, and times are really hard, there’s something about Harry Potter that makes life richer”.

And Grint says: “It’s a strong bond that we’ll always have.”

The reunion will see a whole host of names from the franchise reuniting, including Helena Bonham Carter (Bellatrix Lestrange), Robbie Coltrane (Hagrid), Ralph Fiennes (Voldemort), Gary Oldman (Sirius Black), Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy) and Bonnie Wright (Ginnie Weasley).

Other highlights from the trailer include Fiennes admitting that it was his nieces and nephews that convinced him to take on the role of Voldemort and Bonham Carter donning her Bellatrix teeth once more, much to the amusement of Gary Oldman.

Filmmakers Chris Columbus, David Heyman, Alfonso Cuarón, Mike Newell and David Yates will also appear.

A press release for the trailer also gave fans a sneak peek into what to expect from the reunion and explained that it will “tell an enchanting making-of story through all-new in-depth interviews and cast conversations, inviting fans on a magical first-person journey through one of the most beloved film franchises of all time.”
