Richarlison flare celebration

The Brazilian’s goal was enough to secure the win against Chelsea

Everton winger Richarlison appeared to throw a lit flare into the Goodison Park crowd during his goal celebrations after their 1-0 win against Chelsea.

Richarlison’s goal was enough to secure the win

The Brazilian struck early into the second half after pouncing on César Azpilicueta’s mistake and his goal secured a vital win for Frank Lampard’s side in their quest for survival.

However during the pandemonium the winger found a flare that had been thrown onto the pitch in amongst the celebrations at the Gwladys Street End.

Richarlison then promptly picked it up and ran along with it (creating one of the pictures of the season) before then launched it back into the crowd.

What was social media’s reaction?

Although there have been no reported injuries, Richarlison’s actions were heavily criticised on social media, with many fearing for the safety of the fans.

One user said: “Did Richarlison just pick up a lit flare and throw it into a crowd of people? On live TV, with a referee and VAR and nothing happened?”

Another user tweeted: “How does Richarlison get away with throwing a flare into the stand?”

A third person tweeted: “Around 35-40 seconds in… looks like Richarlison throws a flare into the crowd. Could be in big, big trouble if that’s the case.”

According to reports, the Football Association (FA) will look into an incident involving Richarlison.

Everton’s win means they are now two points behind Burnley and Leeds United – with a game in hand – as the battle to avoid the drop continues to heat up.
