Potter wants Brighton fans to stop shouting ‘shoot’
Graham Potter has told Brighton and Hove Albion fans to stop shouting “shoot” at his players as it presents a “challenge” for those on the pitch.
Brighton failed to score yet again
Brighton were held to a 0-0 draw against Norwich City on Saturday but had more than enough chances to win the game. The Seagulls had 30 shots but only four of those were on target and Neal Maupay failed to convert a penalty.
The scoreless draw was the sixth time Brighton have failed to score in their last seven games and Potter admitted that hearing the fans shouting “shoot” makes it difficult for his players.
“The build-up suggests we’re getting there. Of course, the longer you go, you can hear the crowd, ‘shoot, shoot, shoot’, and that sometimes is a challenge for the players,” he said.
“Because sometimes there’s an opportunity to shoot – sometimes it’s a chance for the block and then the transition. And sometimes maybe one more pass gets you in a better position but, if you miss the pass, you should have shot.”
Despite starting off well, Brighton’s league campaign is fading away
After making a strong start to the Premier League season Brighton have fallen away in the second half and are 13th in the table, with no real danger of relegation, but equally, no chance of making a late challenge for a European spot.
Brighton were also dealt a blow in their draw to bottom-of-the-table Norwich as Polish midfielder Jakub Moder will be ruled out for a lengthy period after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament.
“It’s just one of those things that we’re going through,” Potter said. “A bit of pain and a bit of suffering.
“So, then, that does affect confidence. It affects a little bit of the final bit.
“It’s the Premier League and Premier League defenders – it isn’t so straightforward to create chances and score.”
