The Sheffield United forward was accused of stamping on a supporter
Sheffield United forward Oli McBurnie has been summoned by Nottinghamshire Police to attend a meeting, following accusations he stamped on a Nottingham Forest supporter.
The incident occurred at the City Ground following the Blades’ defeat to Forest
The accusation came after McBurnie, and several of his teammates, were surrounded by Forest fans who celebrated their side’s play-off semi final win against the Blades on penalties.
While there were several incidents during the pitch invasion at the City Ground, footage posted to social media on Wednesday appeared to show McBurnie stamping on a fan, who had fallen to the ground, before being pulled away by members of the Sheffield squad.

McBurnie, 25, protested his innocence in a response on social media later that day, replying with a ‘100’ emoji after a fan tweeted claiming that the video had been taken out of context.

Adam Geelan, an assistant kit man at the Yorkshire club also presented his side of the story on Twitter, which McBurnie liked, and said that he had stepped over the fan, who had fallen onto the Scotland international’s foot.
He tweeted: “Fan illegally enters the pitch provokes and tries to push Rian (Brewster) he [sic] defends himself and the kid falls on Oli’s broken foot can clearly see there’s no stamp, ridiculous post especially when stewards and police were stood there watching it happen and was left to ourselves [sic] to defend.”
McBurnie could face further consequences if he fails to attend
As per Rob Dorsett of Sky Sports, should McBurnie fail to attend the meeting, he will likely be arrested in connection to the incident.
The news comes on the same day (Thursday May 19) that a man had been arrested for head-butting United captain Billy Sharp during the pitch invasion.
Robert Biggs, 30, of Derbyshire, pleaded guilty to the offence and was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and going on to the playing area at a football match. He will serve 24 weeks in prison as a result.
