No matter what the occasion, they’ll always find time to dig each other out

Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher have had a long-running history of aiming sly digs at each other, despite being best friends, and that was the case once again on Sunday.

Man City won the league in a thrilling end to the season

In amongst the madness of the final day of the season, which saw Manchester City come from two goals down to beat Aston Villa 3-2 and win their fourth title in five seasons, Neville couldn’t resist one cheeky jibe.

As Ilkay Gundogan tapped home his second and City’s third of the game to ensure the league title would stay at the Etihad Stadium, the Sky Sports commentator made reference to his colleague’s quotes about Mohamed Salah.

One of Carragher’s more famous commentary lines is when he referred to Salah as a “little dancer,” and Neville had the exact same thoughts on Gundogan.

Describing the goal, Neville could be heard saying: “It’s unbelievable! De Bruyne, class!”

“And Ilkay Gundogan…You little dancer!”

Carragher sadly didn’t hear the dig in-person

Carragher himself won’t have heard the commentary as he was at Anfield where Liverpool fell just short in their ambitions of winning a historic quadruple, despite a 3-1 win against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

There was hope at one stage, as City found themselves 2-0 down as goals from Matty Cash and Philippe Coutinho gave Villa a shock lead at the Etihad.

Liverpool also fell behind early on as Pedro Neto tapped home, but responded through a Sadio Mane strike. Substitute Salah put the Reds in the lead, at which point City had brought themselves back on level terms courtesy of Gundogan and a well-hit Rodri strike.

Andy Robertson made it 3-1 to assure themselves of the win but Gundogan’s goal was the ultimate sucker-punch as Guardiola’s side held on and secured a famous win.
