Van Gaal recently revealed that he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer
Louis van Gaal have revealed that the radiation treatment he has been receiving for prostate cancer has been successful.
The Netherlands boss recently revealed that he had been battling the disease in an interview shown on Dutch television at the beginning of April.
Van Gaal revealed the treatment had been a success
Van Gaal has already confirmed that he will step down from his position as the Netherlands’ boss after the 2022 World Cup, and during an update interview with ANP via The Athletic, explained that he is recovering well.
“I’ve been through everything. I had 25 radiation treatments. Then I had to wait five or six months to see if it had done its job. It did,” he said.
Van Gaal also explained that he didn’t want his players to be distracted
The 70-year-old previously explained that he hadn’t told his players in the fear that it may affect performances and results on the pitch.
“I didn’t want to tell it to my players because it could have influenced their performances,” he said.
“In each period during my time as manager of the national team I had to leave in the night to go to the hospital without the players finding it out until now. While thinking I was healthy, but… I am not.”
Van Gaal’s side will come up against Senegal, Qatar and Ecuador in Group A of the World Cup – a tournament which the Dutchman has repeatedly called out, labelling the decision to host it in the Gulf State as “b******t.”
Ronald Koeman will take over from Van Gaal after the World Cup.
