Konyaspor player Ahmet Çalık tragically dies aged 27

Rest in peace, Ahmet Çalık

Turkish defender Ahmet Çalık has sadly died in a car accident at the age of 27.

The 27-year-old, who played for Turkish Süper Lig side Konyaspor, was killed after reportedly losing control of his car Gölbaşı, in the capital Ankara according to reports from Turkey.

Despite emergency services arriving at the scene, Çalık was declared dead at the scenes and was rumoured to be the only person in the car at the time of a crash.

A statement from Konyaspor confirmed the sad news. It read: “We are in deep sorrow to have lost our player Ahmet Çalık who earned our fans’ and city’s love since the first day he arrived at Konyaspor.”

Meanwhile the youth and sports minister for Turkey, Mehmet Muharrem Kasapoglu said: “I have learned with deep regret that our national football player Ahmet Çalık, who plays for Konyaspor, passed away in a traffic accident on the Ankara – Nigde highway.
