Chelsea have confirmed the appointment of Graham Potter as the club’s new manager on Thursday.

Potter takes over from Thomas Tuchel, who was sacked on Wednesday, after the defeat to Dinamo Zagreb the previous night.

Todd Boehly has moved quick to find his replacement with the Brighton and Hove Albion boss the overwhelming favourite while the likes of Mauricio Pochettino and Zinedine Zidane were also reportedly considered.

Upon the news of his appointment, Potter said: “I am incredibly proud and excited to represent Chelsea FC, this fantastic football club. I am very excited to partner with Chelsea’s new ownership group and look forward to meeting and working with the exciting group of players and to develop a team and culture that our amazing fans can be proud of.

“I would also like to place my sincere thanks to Brighton & Hove Albion for allowing me this opportunity and in particular Tony Bloom and all the players, staff and supporters for their continued support during my time at the club.”

Chairman Todd Boehly added: “I am incredibly proud and excited to represent Chelsea FC, this fantastic football club.

The 47-year-old had been at the Seagulls since 2019 where he had helped to transform the side into a fluent free-flowing style of team.

His final game in charge was a 5-2 win against Leicester and leaves Brighton fourth in the table.

Potter has been linked with a number of high profile jobs over the course of his time in charge on the South Coast and has previously rebuffed interest from the likes of Arsenal and Tottenham.

His first game in charge of the west London club will be against Fulham on Saturday.
