Lampard leaves the Toffees in 19th

Frank Lampard has been sacked by Everton, the club have confirmed.

Lampard was relieved of his duties on Monday after his side’s 2-0 defeat away to relegation rivals West Ham United to leave the Toffees 19th in the Premier League.

The former Chelsea boss was appointed as manager of the Merseyside club in January 2022, replacing Rafael Benitez, with the club also in a relegation battle at the time.

Under his guidance Everton narrowly avoided relegation, beating Crystal Palace 3-2 at Goodison Park to secure survival with a game to spare and finish 16th.

This season promised a lot more optimism as the likes of Amadou Onana joined as well as fan favourite Idrissa Gueye, who returned following a spell in France with Paris Saint-Germain.

Results didn’t improve however and defeat at the London Stadium at the weekend sealed the 44-year-old’s fate.

According to the Daily Express, the Toffees have six candidates in mind that they want to replace Lampard with as they face an uphill battle to avoid relegation from the top flight for the first time in the club’s history.

Sean Dyche, Marcelo Bielsa and Wayne Rooney are three of the names rumoured to be favoured by the board while a return for Sam Allardyce is also reportedly being considered.
