Clubs will be able to sign Haaland for a premium price

Erling Haaland's Manchester City contract contains a release clause of €200m, which can be activated from 2024. Despite City boss Pep Guardiola's claims that his main talisman doesn't contain any clause in his contract, The Athletic have reported that clubs will be able to secure his signature for a set fee in two years' time. By that point, the Norwegian will be two years into his five-year deal at the Etihad Stadium. The value of the release clause will also decrease with each year that passes on his contract. One crucial element of the clause is that it can only be activated by clubs outside of the Premier League which is likely to put the LaLiga rivals of Barcelona and Real Madrid on red alert. There's a growing feeling that either one of the two could make a move for the 22-year-old as the long-term replacement for their current forwards, Robert Lewandowski and Karim Benzema. Should either of the two, or any other European club, make a move for Haaland, they will face stumping up a fee of much more than €200m. In addition to the transfer fee, they will also be expected to pay bonuses and agents fees, which are expected to be on the same sort of scale that City paid this summer. Haaland's start to life in the Premier League has been nothing more than a breeze so far. The forward has already scored 15 goals in the top-flight, scoring a hat-trick in three of them.
