El-Hadji Diouf insults Jamie Carragher during bizarre interview

Diouf also had his say on Ryan Giggs, for some reason

We were getting a bit worried, it had been three whole days since El-Hadji Diouf insulted a former Liverpool teammate.

Diouf took aim at Steven Gerrard in an interview with BBC Africa earlier this week, saying the former Liverpool captain “never did anything for his country.”

The former Bolton Wanderers forward felt Gerrard never performed on the international stage. Unlike Diouf, who failed to score a goal in the entire competition when Senegal were knocked out by Turkey in the quarter-finals of the 2002 World Cup.

“I am Mr El Hadji Diouf, Mr Senegal but he is Mr Liverpool and Senegal is bigger than Liverpool and he has to know that.”

Diouf has previous with Gerrard and this criticism was tame in comparison to his previous utterances.

He once made a racist allegation against the former Liverpool captain, saying “he never liked black people”, and seemed to take a lot of pleasure out of Gerrard’s infamous slip against Chelsea in 2014.

“He downright killed his team by slipping against Chelsea,” Diouf said.

“If Liverpool has never won the Premier League, it’s no accident. What goes around, comes around.”

Diouf had an unhappy and unproductive spell at Liverpool between 2002 and 2004, after signing for £10m from Lens.

He infamously spat at a Celtic fan and got on the wrong side of his teammates, particularly Gerrard and Jamie Carragher. The transfer was a disaster and Diouf didn’t score a single goal in 33 games during the 2003/04 season.

Now the man Neil Warnock once called a “sewer rat” is working as a “goodwill ambassador” for the Senegalese government, but it appears he can’t let go of a grudge.

In video footage of Diouf’s BBC interview, the topic of Carragher came up, and again he couldn’t resist insulting him. The 36-year-old was disparaging of Carragher’s playing ability, saying:

“If he (Carragher) wasn’t a Scouser, he was never going to play football in his life. I’m sorry for him. I only have this to say for him.”

Diouf once called the former Liverpool defender a “f****** loser” and said that “the difference between Jamie and me is that I am a world class player and he is a s***.”

Carragher had this reply:

For some reason, Diouf also isn’t a fan of Ryan Giggs.
