‘Over the years I have come to understand that people talk a lot without knowing the truth’

Former Chelsea player Charly Musonda has responded to claims he went ‘missing’ from training at Zulte Waregem amid a break down in his planned move to the club.

The 25-year-old was expected to join Zulte after impressing in a trial match and training following the expiry of his contract at Stamford Bridge this summer.

However, his move to the Belgian club never materialised as the deal reportedly fell apart in bizarre circumstances.

“We don’t know anything about him. I don’t know if we should continue to trust him because he hasn’t been in training since a few weeks ago and there has been no contact,” Zulte’s Director General Eddy Cordier told Marca, as the club declared Musonda to be ‘missing’ earlier this week.

Cordier added: “Will he ever come back? We have no idea.”

The Belgian attacker has since broken his silence, telling Marca: “I am fine. Over the years I have come to understand that people talk a lot without knowing the truth, but that is not my problem.”

Musonda also insisted that he will not be joining Zulte this summer, adding: “Very soon I will be back on the pitch doing what I love. Little by little I will build my way back to the top and maybe it will be in Spain.

“I love football, I always loved it, I always will love it. I have trained for four years – three of them alone – without playing, dreaming that one day I will not only play, but I will climb back to the top.”

Musonda made just seven appearances for Chelsea during his time in London, registering just one goal and two assists for the club.
