Manchester United have been forced to issue a statement after Bruno Fernandes' X account appeared to be hacked.
Football fans were quick to notice less-than-everyday behaviour from the Portuguese international's social media account, in a series of peculiar posts that ranged from a video game challenge to newly-crowned darts champions Luke Littler, to an open criticism of Manchester United's co-owners.
The account, which has 4.5 million followers, now appears to be back under the control of Man United's captain, with all the unexpected tweets now removed from the site.

This action has not prevented a post that read: "Let's get rid of INEOS," from reaching more than 80,000 people on the platform.
INEOS is the British chemical company owned by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the co-owner of the Red Devils, who is currently in charge of football operations at Old Trafford.
That post, and others seen in the image above, prompted an official statement from the club's own X account, making clear that the messages were not actually posted by Fernandes himself, while also urging supporters to avoid interacting with the alleged hacker.
Their full statement read: "Bruno Fernandes’s X account has been hacked.
"Supporters should not engage with any of the posts or direct messages."

The alleged hacker's outburst from Fernandes' X account came just hours after the Red Devils were eliminated from the FA Cup at the hands of Brighton.
It has been a whirlwind week at Old Trafford, after Man United's leadership opted to end the reign of first-team manager Ruben Amorim last Monday.
The Red Devils' loss to Brighton in the cup means they will play just 40 matches over the course of the 2025/26 season, their fewest since the First World War.
The club look to be back on the path towards stability, with reports this morning suggesting that Michael Carrick will soon be appointed as the club's caretaker manager, taking over from interim head coach Darren Fletcher.
