Woman horrified after warts grew on tattoo and had to be burned off

'I was in the pool and I thought the sun had caused the tattoo to flare up or something'

An expecting mum was terrified after warts began to grow on her tattoo that would later need to be burned off using liquid nitrogen. Jade Harvey first believed that small lumps on her tattoo were merely skin irritation that would no doubt fade as the ink healed. However warts continued to grow and after rushing to the doctor, she was informed they could only be removed using a cryogenic process. The 20-year-old explained: "I thought it was just a skin reaction caused by pregnancy. Be careful where you get your tattoos!"

Warts are known to spread onto tattoos if done near pre-existing boils and hormones are known to empower skin irritation especially during pregnancy. The Cape Coral resident is still unaware as to what exactly caused the inflammation but chose to share her story as a cautionary tale on TikTok. [caption id="attachment_307977" align="alignnone" width="922"] Jade is still unaware of what caused the flare up/Via SWNS[/caption] After seeing an image of a snake online, Harvey decided she wanted a similar tattoo of the animal curling around her forearm. She paid $150 and in June 2020 got the tattoo she was initially happy with. She said: "We never talked about it - I knew the wart was there, I knew [the tattoo artist] saw it, but he never said anything either."

On Boxing Day, Harvey found out she was pregnant and nearly a year after getting the tattoo, she began to notice boils forming. The Florida resident explained: "I was in the pool and I thought the sun had caused the tattoo to flare up or something." [caption id="attachment_307976" align="alignnone" width="912"] The tattoo artist didn't bring up the existing wart/Via SWNS[/caption] Her midwife said they were nothing to worry about in terms of her pregnancy health but even after giving birth the boils refused to budge. Visiting the doctor, Jade had them immediately removed, saying that: "It felt like she was torching my skin! It felt like a torch was on hand or I was holding dry ice - not fun!"
