Theresa May has said she trusts US President Donald Trump in
characteristically awkward fashion.
The prime minister was interviewed by CBS
This Morning host John Dickerson, and emphatically told him that, she, erm, yeah, maybe, sort of, kinda, trusts him? She thinks?
When asked by Dickerson, "When he tells you something, do you trust him?" May responded, “Of course I listen to what the American president tells me."
Classic diversion tactics. Truly, a tour de force in political manoeuvring.
Dickerson wouldn't be denied, however, and pressed on with vigour. "But do you trust him?"
The Maybot 2000, however, murmured into life after a long pause.
"Well, yes. I mean, we work together. We have a special relationship. This is two people reflecting as leaders of their two countries – the relationship that those two countries have and have built up over a number of years.”
“The point of the special relationship between the United Kingdom and the United States in a sense is that we can have frank and open discussions. And when we disagree, we will – we can say to each other we disagree and why we disagree. But at the same time, we cooperate on so much else, which is of crucial importance to us," she added.
Sounds a bit like she disagrees, and can't say that she disagrees.

The prime minister also didn't take the opportunity to criticise Trump's failure to address the
Salisbury novichok poisoning with Vladimir Putin directly, despite meeting him for a one-to-one summit in July.
“A number of issues were raised in that discussion. I think expelling 60 Russian intelligence officers sent the message home pretty clearly,” May said.
She also commented on Trump's nuclear deal with Iran, stating that she doesn't agree with it, like at all, but... *shrugs* ... *
starts doing all that ridiculous dancing again*.
“The United States has taken a particular view on how to deal with this issue. That's a view which we disagree with. We take a different view. But that deal is still in place.”
Well. I'm glad that's cleared that up.
Still, the BBC has already proved you can spend
two weeks with Theresa May and not get a straight answer out of her. This shouldn't come as much as a surprise.
