Borat ‘defends’ Rudy Giuliani’s ‘sexytime’ encounter following major controversy

Borat Subsequent Moviefilm dropped on Amazon Prime Video on Friday, and one moment has everyone talking

Borat, or at least Sacha Baron Cohen in-character, has released a video statement reacting to the controversy over Rudy Giuliani’s appearance in his new film.

Spoilers for Borat Subsequent Moviefilm follow.

Toward the end of the film, the former New York Mayor Giuliani and current Donal Trump attorney is interviewed by an actress playing Borat’s teenage daughter in a hotel room. They then move to a different room for a drink at her suggestion, where Giuliani puts his hands down his trousers and appears to touch his genitals.

Giuliani has claimed that he was tucking in his shirt after removing recording equipment.

“I am here to defend America’s mayor, Rudolph Giuliani,” says Borat, in the video posted on Twitter. “What was an innocent sexytime encounter between a consenting man and my 15-year-old daughter, have been turned into something disgusting by fake news media.”

“I warn you. Anyone else try this, and Rudolph will not hesitate to reach into his legal briefs and whip out his subpoenas.”

Note the pronunciation on “subpoenas” in particular.

The film was released on Amazon Prime Video on Friday, but the scene became international news following the review embargo being lifted on Wednesday.

Giuliani himself responded on Twitter on Wednesday after the news stories began appearing.

“The Borat video is a complete fabrication,” says Rudy Giuliani. “I was tucking in my shirt after taking off the recording equipment.”

“At no time before, during, or after the interview was I ever inappropriate. If Sacha Baron Cohen implies otherwise he is a stone-cold liar.”

“As soon as I realized it was a set up I called the police, which has been noted in THR article on July 8th.”

In July, Giuliani confirmed to The New York Post that Sacha Baron Cohen had tried to prank him, but claimed that he “didn’t get me.”

“This person comes in yelling and screaming, and I thought this must be a scam or a shake-down, so I reported it to the police. He then ran away,” he told the Post.

“I only later realized it must have been Sacha Baron Cohen. I thought about all the people he previously fooled and I felt good about myself because he didn’t get me.”

Rudy Guiliani is the current personal attorney to Donald Trump, and was mayor of New York between 1994 and 2001.
