Basically, it’s going to be very cold

Britain is experiencing a cold snap at the moment, with ice and snow already causing travel delays and school closures across the country. And tonight, it’s set to get a whole lot worse as, temperatures are expected to drop to as low as -7 (minus SEVEN) overnight.

The Met Office said temperatures will drop further on Wednesday night, and that clear skies causing wet surfaces to “freeze quite readily”.

They have also issued a ‘yellow severe ice warning’ for the south east, central and north of England as well as for Scotland from 6pm on Wednesday to 11am on Thursday.

Throughout the course of Wednesday, temperatures have hovered around freezing, and will drop overnight. So, set your alarm ten minutes earlier than usual so you can de-ice your car, or if you take public transport to work, spend ten minutes contemplating quitting your job before dragging yourself out of bed and onto a train.

Today was central London’s coldest day of the year, with temperatures peaking at just 2.6 degrees.

According to a Met Office spokesman, snow and sleet showers are likely to continue throughout Wednesday, pushing “southwards across parts of Scotland and into northern and then central England and Wales”.

“Sleet or snow falling on frozen surfaces is likely to form ice,” he added.

“Saturday could be quite unsettled with potential for strong winds and rains.

“As we go through Sunday we will see a return to similar conditions that we have at the moment. It will be colder again and then with that brings the risk of wintry showers and overnight ice.

“It will quickly turn cold and showery again.”

Basically, the headline here is: wrap up warm, prepare for travel chaos, and try to make the most of the snow.
