Richard Madeley goes full Partridge on Shamima Begum and Hitler Youth

He’s the gift that keeps on giving.

You can keep your Piers Morgans and Andrew Neils. Don’t talk to me about Phil and Holly. I care about one man and one man only in the world of TV.

Richard Madeley.

Amongst the plethora of positives to Pier Morgan’s departure from Good Morning Britain is the fact that it has allowed Richard Madeley to sit in at times, filling the vacant seat next to Susanna Reid. And we may have just seen his masterpiece, his Sistine Chapel, his Mona Lisa.

As the hosts on GMB discussed the controversy surrounding Shamima Begum, Madeley decided that at this point the best comparison to make was between this scenario… and that of the Hitler Youth.

That’s right. After all, who doesn’t enjoy a bit of Hitler Youth convo on breakfast television?

After reading out a viewer’s message, Madeley offered his opinion, commenting: ‘There’s one interesting point though, I was thinking about this last night. Obviously we had the Nuremberg Trials after the war and we hanged quite a few Nazis and imprisoned a lot of others, and we let them out eventually.

“But we didn’t go after the Hitler Youth. As far as I’m aware, we didn’t go after the Hitler Youth. We only went after adults who had served in the regime.

“And that’s just something to reflect on I think.”

The look on Susanna’s face is absolutely priceless.

Just in case you needed any more proof that Richard Madeley is the real-world version of Alan Partridge. Although, have we actually established that he isn’t playing a role devised for him by Steve Coogan?
