This musician wants to write a song for every single Pokémon

Gotta catch 'em all

Tom Victor

Off the top of your head, how many Pokémon can you remember the names of?

10? 20? 50?

There’s Charizard, of course, and Pikachu, and we’ll never forget Jolteon.

But the chances are none of us can even recall the original 151, let alone the 700+ spread across several generations of the creatures.

Even fewer of us have the creativity to write a song about even one of them, but American folk musician Jacob Newman is already well on the way.

He has written 100 songs so far, dedicated to favourites such as Bulbasaur, Zubat and Electabuzz, and all are available on his album ‘100 songs for 100 Pokémon‘.

“Once I started this project it has become a little hard to write about things other than Pokémon,” Newman (stage name Jacob Norman Chainsaw-Arm. Yes, really) told The Washingtonian.

Frankly, we’re not sure why you’d ever want to write about anything else.

Here’s his ode to Mr Mime, which – if you ask us – is strangely touching.
