For the first time in over ten years, the 6 Music Festival will take place in the North East.
That's because the festival will leave Manchester for Newcastle in March of next year, making it the first outing in the North East since 2015.
BBC Radio 6 Music has confirmed that after a four-year run in Greater Manchester, the 2027 edition will move to Newcastle.
While the full lineup is due early next year, the five-day event runs from 15 to 19 March across Newcastle's independent and grassroots venues.
For the last time, Newcastle hosted the festival in 2015.
Then, after years moving between British cities, it settled in Manchester in 2023.
The city has had a strong run in music since, hosting the Mercury Prize for a second year running and the 2025 MOBO Awards.
The move lands in a busy year for British live music.
It comes amid the backlash caused by the Glastonbury's ticket price hike this year, and several acts pull out of Ed Sheeran's tour in protest.
The council's principal advisor for events and culture, Jim Mawdsley, said the city has been transformed since 2015.
"Newcastle has become a true music city," he said, citing Mercury Prize nominees Sam Fender, Jade and Knats.
"We believe that our moment is now."
The festival runs from Monday 15 to Friday 19 March 2027, across Newcastle's independent and grassroots venues.
In Newcastle, the city last hosted it in 2015, with the full venue list and lineup due to be announced in 2027.
