Rare and never before seen images of Bob Dylan to be released in new book

Will Lavin

The photographs are from arguably the most important moment in Dylan’s musical career

A much celebrated singer, songwriter, author and painter, Bob Dylan is a legend. We know this.

So in learning that a new book featuring photographs of Dylan by legendary photographer Jerry Schatzberg is on the way, our day has certainly gotten better.

Dylan by Schatzberg includes several rare and never before seen images of Dylan taken during his Blonde on Blonde and Highway 61 Revisited era, arguably the most important time in Dylan’s musical career.

Part of the unique quality of these photographs is their broad range of intimate and public locations: music and photography studios, live performances and street portraits. But more than that, each session says something different about Dylan, the man and the musician, and manages to perfectly capture the many facets of one of the most complex and mysterious creatives of all-time.

Schatzberg’s essential images not only stand the test of time, but also have become visually synonymous with Dylan, one of the most important artists of the 20th century. The book is a comprehensive record of those moments, in photos and memories presented for the first time as a single subject monograph.

The book will also include reprints of old interviews, including “A Night with Bob Dylan” by Al Aronowitz, originally published in the New York Herald Tribune in 1965.

Dylan by Schatzberg will be released via ACC Art Books October 25th and can be purchased here.
