The top festivals of the world have been ranked, and people are surprised that Glastonbury barely makes the top ten.
The annual five-day event at Worthy Farm in Somerset began in 1970 and has hosted some of the biggest artists ever to grace the earth, including David Bowie, Dolly Parton, Elton John, The Rolling Stones, Stevie Wonder.
It's incredibly difficult to get tickets each year. Tickets for the 2024 festival cost £355 per person plus a £5 booking fee and the original sale happened back in November.
The resale took place earlier this week and all remaining tickets were sold out in just 18 minutes.
It is by far the biggest festival in the UK, so how on earth has it ended up as only the tenth best festival in the world.
A company called NoDeposit365.com carried out the research by analysing how often certain festivals were searched online.
The terms examined include 'festival lineup', 'festival 2024' and 'festival resale'.
The festival that came up the most was Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, which took place just last weekend in Indio Valley, California.
Coachella, which takes place over two weeks every April, was searched 799 thousand times a month. Some might question the authenticity of the festival, considering it tends to be one big photo opportunity for influencers and celebrities, but the line-up every year is undeniably excellent.
The second most searched festival was the iconic Burning Man, which averaged 518,729 searches a month. Like Coachella, Burning Man takes place in the middle of a desert. Unlike Coachella, it's more of a counterculture movement than a music festival, and it culminates in the building of a temporary community called Black Rock City. Think Woodstock but everyone has an iPhone.
The highest ranked European festival is the EDM event Tomorrowland which came in in fourth with 317,321 average monthly searches.
It takes place every year in Belgium, and features some of the world's biggest DJ's including Tiesto, Swedish House Mafia, David Guetta and the late Avicii.
All other festivals in the top ten are based in the US, with Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo and Austin City Limits featured.
Then, in tenth place, Glastonbury finally gets a mention. It's surprising to see it rank so low when you consider how long it has been running for and that most artists consider it an 'I've made it' moment when they get to play the Pyramid stage.
Glasto has an average of 65,009 monthly searches.
Olivia King, spokesperson for NoDeposit365.com commented on the results of the survey: "Festivals are well-loved and anticipated all over the world, with many people returning to their favorites every year. Whether they are music, arts, heritage, literature, food – they are so important to people.
"They create a sense of community and cultural identity; festivals are a place where no matter who you are or where you are from, everyone feels accepted and is free to be themselves and have fun. It is great to see festivals still bringing people together in 2024, given the incredibly high search volumes in this study."
This year's Glastonbury lineup marks the first time that two female artists will headline the festival. Dua Lipa and Sza will close the Pyramid stage on two separate nights, with Coldplay topping the bill on the third night.
