McDonald’s changed its chips years ago and nobody noticed until now

They may not be healthy, but they are damn tasty....

They may not be healthy, but they are damn tasty.

We know that anytime we head to McDonald’s, we’re not going to have a low-fat meal. Even the salads have more calories in them than some of the burgers.

However, while the chips have always been a favourite, it turns out that the recipe for them was changed back in 1990, and nobody knew, or indeed, knew the reason, until now.

According to Indy100, before the July of 1990, the fries tasted completely different and were fried in beef tallow – a rendered form of beef or mutton fat.

Not so great for vegetarians… But it wasn’t changed because of that reason – instead, it was all down to one man.

Phil Sokolof argued that the beef tallow recipe was the reason he had a heart attack in 1966, aged 43, and in the years that followed, he poured millions of dollars into campaigning for the recipe to be changed.

He claimed that McDonald’s poisoned America, and even though Maccy D’s denied it, the popular fast food chain changed the recipe to vegetable oil because of the backlash.

You learn something new everyday.
