The next Batman film will be very different than The Dark Knight trilogy

Film fans should really enjoy this.

Why so serious? Well, Batman lost his parents at a young age and is consumed by an all-encompassing feeling of rage that will never go away. That's why. It also doesn't help that those pesky villains like The Joker, Two-Face and Deathstroke (villain in The Batman) are constantly terrorising Gotham City, causing Bruce Wayne to do some ass-kicking and detective work. Actually, despite the fact that he's the world's best detective, Bruce Wayne has rarely done any detective work in the Batman films. Lazy sod. With the news that Matt Reeves (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, Cloverfield and Let Me In) has stepped in to replace Ben Affleck as director on The Batman, we're wondering about what type of adventure to expect from The Dark Knight. Reeves has been doing press ahead of his stellar new film, War for the Planet of the Apes, and he was inevitably asked The Batman. “In all of my films, what I try to do, in an almost Hitchcockian sense, is use the camera and use the storytelling so that you become that character, and you emphasize with that point of view. There’s a chance to do an almost noir-driven, detective version of Batman that is point-of-view driven in a very, very powerful way, that hopefully is going to connect you to what’s going on inside of his head and inside of his heart," he said. Mmm, it appears that Bruce Wayne will actually have to use his brain and fists to solve a crime. Reeves adds: “One of the reasons I was drawn to [The Batman] is that I had a similar obsession to Batman when I was younger that I had with the Apes series, which I was obsessed with. I see a parallel emotionally between Caesar and Batman, in that they’re both tortured and trying to sort of grapple within themselves to try and do the right thing in a very imperfect and, to some degree, corrupt world. It’s really that emotionality that I’m interested in." War for the Planet of the Apes is released on July 14th and Batman fans can see the Caped Crusader when Justice League hits cinemas on November 17th.
