Rick Astley recreates Never Gonna Give You Up video

He’s still got it

Rick Astley has recreated the music video for his timeless 80s hit, ‘Never Gonna Give You Up,” and he most certainly has not let us down.

The one-minute long video is part of an advert for the CSAA (California State Automobile Association) Insurance Group, and sees Astley dancing and singing exactly as he did all those years ago when he was 21.

But it doesn’t look like age has caught up with the British singer, with Astley still able to shimmy and shake just like he did all those years ago.

All the iconic shots are there, including recreations of the three outfits that feature in the original video. But there are some sprinklings of the 21st century in there, with cameos from Zoom and a smartphone.

It will have quite a way to go before it reaches anywhere near the stratospheric levels of popularity that the original video has though.

Since being posted on YouTube in 2009, the 1987 video has racked up more than 1.2bn views.

On its release, the song topped the UK chart for five weeks and was the biggest selling single of 1987.

It reached number one in 25 countries, including the US, and has gone down in pop culture history as one of the most iconic songs of the 80s.

In more recent years, the song has become just as popular for its meme potential and the social media phenomenon that is Rickrolling.

In a tweet celebrating its 35th birthday, Astley said: “Never Gonna Give You Up is 35 years old today! If it was a person it would be old enough to be President according to US law!

“It’s really got a life of it’s own at this point & I just appreciate all the love, fun & laughter that surrounds it! Here’s to the next 35!”

A song that will never, ever age.
