‘I feel like a lot of times, I’m an eighth grader in love land’

JoJo Siwa says fame has come at the cost of her love life.

The singer, dancer, actress and YouTuber says, while she feels mature beyond her 19 years in some aspects of her life, other parts haven’t progressed at the same speed.

Speaking on podcast We’re Having Gay Sex Jojo, real name Joelle Joanie Siwa, revealed the impact her fame has had on her teenage years.

JoJo, who appeared in two seasons of Dance Moms along with her mum, Jessalynn Siwa, said she feels more mature than other people her age because when she was nine she “was expected to work and act as if I was 18”.

It left the singer behind hits Boomerang and Kid in a Candy Store “in a mental space of a 29-year-old”.

However, when it comes to sex and relationships, Jojo says she’s missed out and feels “very behind”.

“I’m very behind in the world of love because most people go to a freshmen dance and they go with a date,” JoJo told the poscast.

“They go to homecoming with a different date. And then they go to prom 14 times… and they have a summer fling, and they have their hook up in the car in the school parking lot.

“I never had any of that. I feel like a lot of times, I’m an eighth grader in love land.”

JoJo also spoke about how being famous complicates her love life.

“It’s hard for me. It’s hard for the person I’m dating or talking to, because I can’t do things. Like how most people can go on a dinner date, I can’t go on a dinner date normally,” she told the podcast.

And when it comes to being more intimate, JoJo said she was also somewhat limited.

“Any time I’m away from (the) house, I’ve only had sex in my own room or hotel room,” she explained.

“I don’t really know what normal teenagers do but I’m assuming it happens [in a] bathroom stall – wherever – but because of who I am, I can’t do that.”

Listeners praised the performer and found her story very “relatable” and said she “deserves the right to be an adult” and to be able to “grow up”.
