New series of Black Mirror confirmed by Netflix

Charlie Herbert

Black mirror season six

The last series was released in 2019

It’s official: more Black Mirror is on the way very soon.

Netflix released a trailer for series six of the hit anthology series, and confirmed it would be released in June this year.

The announcement of the first series since 2019 had been teased on Tuesday, when the official Black Mirror account tweeted: “What have we missed?”

And today (April 26) the first trailer for the next batch of episodes dropped.

According to Netflix the upcoming season is “the most unpredictable, unclassifiable and unexpected yet.”

Check out the trailer below.

As is now the case with the dark, dystopian series, it looks like it’s another who’s-who of acting names, with the likes of Aaron Paul, Anjana Vasan, Annie Murphy and Salma Hayek all set to star in the new series.

The very impressive full cast list for the new season is: Aaron Paul, Anjana Vasan, Annie Murphy, Auden Thornton, Ben Barnes, Clara Rugaard, Daniel Portman, Danny Ramirez, David Shields, Himesh Patel, John Hannah, Josh Hartnett, Kate Mara, Michael Cera, Monica Dolan, Myha’la Herrold, Paapa Essiedu, Rob Delaney, Rory Culkin, Salma Hayek Pinault, Samuel Blenkin, Zazie Beetz.

In the past, names such as Anthony Mackie, Miley Cyrus, Jon Hamm, Andrew Scott, Domhnall Gleeson and Daniel Kaluuya have all appeared in the show.

Show creator Charlie Brooker shared the trailer, tweeting: “Back in Black. With a hint of red.”

Given everything that’s gone on in the world in the four years since the last season (such as an entire pandemic), we can only imagine what the show’s writers have decided to cover for the sixth series.

After starting off life on Channel 4, Black Mirror was snapped up by Netflix after just two series.

The six-episode seasons three and four were released exclusively on the platform, as well as the interactive movie Bandersnatch, starring Fionn Whitehead and Will Poulter.

This was followed by a three-episode season five in 2019.

Ever since, fans have been uncertain whether we’d ever get more episodes, with Brooker saying in 2020 that he wasn’t sure the world wanted any more episodes of the show.

I’ve been busy, doing things. I don’t know what I can say about what I’m doing and not doing,” he explained in the interview with the Radio Times.

“At the moment, I don’t know what stomach there would be for stories about societies falling apart, so I’m not working away on one of those.”

Variety reported that the sixth season of the show would be “even more cinematic in scope” than previous seasons, with a source telling the publication that each installment was “being treated as an individual film.”

Consider us excited.
