HBO reveal more details for Game of Thrones spin-off release date

Game of Thrones' penultimate season has arrived.

Already a couple of episodes deep into season seven, thoughts are inevitably turning to what will come after the hit HBO show comes to an end, following season eight. Unsurprisingly, HBO intend to follow it with a spin-off series, and we've now been given some form of indication as to when we can expect this. Speaking to reporters following a panel at the Television Critic Association, programming president Casey Bloys suggested it would be at least a year after the conclusion of season eight before fans were treated to a glimpse of any spin-off. However, Bloys did warn that the main series was still very much the most important thing. "The number one priority in all of this is the final season of Game of Thrones," he explained. "I don't want to do anything with a spin-off yet or anything that detracts or distracts from that. "That season will happen, and my guess is it would be at least a year before you saw anything else. What I don't want is the attention to be drawn from the final season, which I think is going to be epic and amazing, and somehow have the distraction of a new Game of Thrones airing right after that. "It's best to separate it and that's what we'll do." Game of Thrones season eight is expected to land in a year's time, meaning a spin-off to the show could potentially arrive in summer 2019. In the mean time, we've plenty to look forward to as Game of Thrones draws to a conclusion.
