Gwyneth Paltrow uses her Academy Award as a doorstop

‘It works perfectly’

Gwyneth Paltrow may have only won one Academy Award, but the actress is putting it to good use – as a doorstop.

The Goop lifestyle guru uses the award to prop open a door to her lush garden in the Hamptons.

In a recent video for Vogue’s 73 Questions series, Paltrow’s Oscar — the 1999 Best Actress statuette for Shakespeare in Love — is seen in action.

“My doorstop,” Paltrow says of the Academy Award. “It works perfectly.”

Celebrities, as it turns out, are perhaps not just like us.

Writing under Vogue’s video, one person said: “I love how Gwyneth has finally gotten to an age where she can be unapologetically out of touch but in a funny way. (Oscar as a doorstop).”

In 2005, Paltrow admitted that she kept her statuette “tucked away at the back of the bookshelf in my bedroom because it weirds me out”, Entertainment Weekly reported.

“For weeks after I won I kept it in storage,” she said. “I won’t even put it on the mantlepiece, the thing freaks me out.”

Paltrow said that she hadn’t been able to “feel really good about it” but instead was “sort of embarrassed,” and that the trophy itself “brings up weird, traumatic feelings” because she associates it with a “tough time” in her life.

Speaking on Alex Cooper’s Call Her Daddy podcast earlier this year, Paltrow explained she had been feeling seriously ill around time she collected her Oscar – and the reaction she received for it, really ruined the moment.

“He was really debilitated,” Paltrow said of her father, Bruce Paltrow, who died in 2002.

“It was just this totally overwhelming moment.”

She continued: “You know, I was 26. I cried and people were so mean about it and I just thought, ‘Wow, there’s this big energy shift that’s happening. I think I’m going to have to learn to be less openhearted and much more protective of myself and filter people out better.'”
