Dannii Minogue speaks out against reports that she has ‘come out as queer’

The Australian singer said that she “identified as queer” during an interview on BBC’s ‘The One Show’ on Thursday.

Dannii Minogue has backtracked on an earlier announcement she made in which she suggested that she considered herself to be “queer”.

In an emotional interview on BBC’s The One Show on Thursday evening, the All I Wanna Do singer appeared to come out as

The 52-year-old was on the programme to promote the BBC Three reality dating show I Kissed A Girl, in which she plays the role of matchmaker.

Minogue previously hosted a similar version of the show called I Kissed A Boy, which followed a group of 10 single guys as they searched for love in a gorgeous sunny location.

The ten episode series matched the boys up after, you guessed it, a kiss, as couples were formed based on what each person was looking for in a potential partner.

After their initial smooch, the new pairings embarked on a romantic journey that tested just how compatible they really were.

At the beginning of her appearance on last night’s The One Show, Minogue said: “I identify as queer in a weird way.

However, in an Instagram post shared yesterday, Minogue clarified she is straight but is a staunch supporter and identifies with the queer community.

The post was accompanied by a video of the 52-year-old at the screening of I Kissed A Girl .

In the caption, Minogue wrote: “I have been lucky enough to know and work with the queer community most of my life and I can’t wait for Sunday night.

“To clarify, there was no breakdown and I was not making an announcement that I’m a lesbian or queer, I’m straight and in a long term hetero relationship,” she added.

“Here’s to the first series of I Kissed A Girl and let’s not let this distract from this incredibly important series for lesbian, bisexual and queer women’s representation on TV.”

Minogue’s followers came out in support of her in the comment section of the post.

One wrote: “You don’t need to explain yourself to anyone Dannii – everyone that knows you is aware you’ve ALWAYS been a staunch ally since day one. You’d never say anything for clickbait.”

Another commented: “Well said, Dannii. You shouldn’t need to explain yourself, you’ve been an ally for decades and you shouldn’t have to prove your intentions or clarify what you mean when you express yourself, yet you have still managed to do so gracefully and respectfully. We love you and can’t wait for Sunday.”

The new series I Kissed A Girl premieres on BBC Three tonight at 9pm.
