Edgar Wright’s new film Baby Driver might just be the the best damn film of the summer

Paul Moore

Spaced, Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, Scott Pilgrim vs The World.  The man is a genius.

What makes a great summer film?

Fun, excitement, originality, tunes, laughs and an idea that’s cooler than the other side of Pirlo’s pillow will always help, but in the case of Edgar Wright’s body of work, you know exactly what to expect.

Very few filmmakers can match the Englishman in terms of style, camerawork and an ear for dialogue/music, and as we saw in the first trailer for his latest film, it appears that the Shaun of the Dead director has really revved up the gears on Baby Driver.

Taking inspiration from Point Break and the films of Walter Hill, Baby Driver looks like nothing that you’ve ever seen before.

Then again, Wright always had the need for speed – especially in that class scene in Shaun of the Dead when they check on the zombie from the car while Ash is blaring out of the speakers.

Empire have already given it 5-stars while the collective minds/reviewers at Rotten Tomatoes have bestowed a perfect 100% score on Wright’s latest.

Yeah, just try and get that tune out of your head.

Take a look at the latest trailer. How’s that for a slice of friend gold?
