And former Labour MP Ed Balls flailing his way through Gangnam Style - that irritating novelty hit from 2012 - falls firmly into that category.
Watching this clip makes it all the more of a mystery how Britain ended up in the biggest recession since the 1930s despite Balls being Economic Secretary to the Treasury for the 12 months immediately preceding the crisis.
Look at him. Look at the look on his face. If one was being charitable one would think that look was intense concentration.
More likely, though, is that as he prances about in a bright blue blazer on a light entertainment show, he is thinking how he could have been Prime Minister by now, if only things hadn't gone so disastrously wrong.

The judges gamely batted on afterwards, clearly loathing his continued presence on the show, but also clearly lacking the balls (ahem) to say they loathe the voting public even more for keeping Balls on the show.
Len Goodman said: "I don't think there's words in the dictionary to describe it, I've got to say I enjoy watching you for your entertainment value.
"Okay we're the judges but we also watch it as normal human beings and it's so entertaining.
"I'm not sure if you're going to make it next week to Blackpool but if you don't the show will lose a lot of fun."
Bruno Tonioli added: "I nearly passed out, I'll never recover from that. It's the best worst dance I've seen," while nominated Nasty One Craig Revel-Horwood added: "Three letters darling, O, M, G."
Darcey Bussell could only manage: "That, without fail will go down in Strictly history."
