Could The People’s Champion become The People’s President?

WWE Champion Bobby Lashley said he would endorse Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson in a presidential run, if the latter decided to move into politics.

In a recent poll, almost half the American public said they would back a presidential bid from The Rock.

According to the poll conducted by Piplsay, approximately 58% of 30,138 Americans surveyed would support The Rock if he ran for office.

It’s no surprise, considering he was known as The People’s Champion during his time in the WWE.

The Rock’s name was listed alongside Matthew McConaughey, who is “seriously considering running for Texas governor in the upcoming 2022 election”.

A presidential bid from The Rock may have serious substance to it.

In a recent interview with USA Today, the 48-year-old confirmed that he “would consider a presidential run in the future if that’s what the people wanted”.

He added: “Truly I mean that, and I’m not flippant in any way with my answer. That would be up to the people […] So I would wait, and I would listen. I would have my finger on the pulse, my ear to the ground”.

Such qualities are essential in a politician of any standing, and current WWE Champion Bobby Lashley believes The Rock possesses them in abundance.

Speaking to JOE ahead of Wrestlemania 37 this weekend, Lashley said:

“Here’s the thing… and I’ve said this before. There are different times in history where we need different things.

“There are times in history, and I’ll say this as lightly as possible, when we need work done.

“Then there’s a time, after the work is done, when we can all get back in synergy, we can all get back to feeling good, and we can all get back to having somebody up there that we can just say ‘Hey, I like this guy, he makes us feel good’.

“And I think nobody else at this time can make you feel good like The Rock.”

Lashley believes America would benefit from having a figure such as The Rock become president.

“In our society, it’s needed right now.

“We’ve been through some tough times, with Covid, with fighting back and forth and rioting, it’s been way too much.

“There are positive qualities that a president needs and I think The Rock is that person.”

You can watch Wrestlemania 37 this Saturday and Sunday on BT Sport Box Office. Alternatively, stream it live on the WWE Network.
