Ariana Grande has filed a lawsuit against a group of anonymous hackers she says gained backdoor access to devices and leaked her unreleased songs and footage from recording sessions and music videos. The suit was filed on Monday in Los Angeles and reviewed by Variety, targeting unnamed “John Does” over an alleged campaign of phishing scams and hacking.
According to the filing, the hackers targeted the personal digital accounts of photographers and producers who worked closely with the singer, then sold the stolen data and content for “significant sums of money”. The case comes amid a world tour, where sold-out shows have kept fans scrambling for Ariana Grande’s Eternal Sunshine tour tickets, including in the UK
"Unlawful and egregious theft, dissemination, and exploitation of unreleased content."
That is how the lawsuit describes the hackers’ conduct, which Grande’s legal team says forms a clear pattern of illegal behaviour. The singer is seeking to unmask those responsible through the courts. No individuals have yet been named, and the defendants are listed only as John Does while the legal process to identify them plays out. It marks a rare move by a major pop star to pursue online leakers directly through the US courts.
