"All of us in this chamber joined together, with Democrats and Republicans, to say that Vladimir Putin cannot escape accountability for the atrocities committed against the Ukrainian people," Democratic Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer told the Senate.
The resolution was supported by US Representative Victoria Spartz, the only Ukrainian-American in Congress, and also the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague.
Just yesterday, Health Secretary Sajid Javid said that Putin would be "held responsible" at the international criminal court in The Hague. Javid also stated that Justice Secretary Dominic Raab had travelled to the Hague on Monday to ensure that "when that prosecution comes, the court will have what it needs."

"It fills me with rage to see something like that. These are appalling atrocities committed on innocent civilians in Ukraine by the Russians," Javid told BBC One's Breakfast show. "These are war crimes and Putin will be held responsible."
US officials had just yesterday mocked their Russian counterparts for sanctioning President Joe Biden's deceased father by not including the suffix "junior."

White House press secretary Jen Psaki, who was among those banned from Russia this week, said: "President Biden is a junior so they may have sanctioned his dad, may he rest in peace."
She added: "None of us are planning tourist trips to Russia, none of us have bank accounts that we won't be able to access, so we will forge ahead."
