Police clashed with protesters at the Winter Olympics last night over a multitude of issues which led to 10,000 people demonstrating and six people being arrested.
Tear gas and water cannons were used by Italian police against the crowds who had descended to near the Olympic venue in Milan to protest over the cost of housing in the country, the environmental impact of the games, as well as the continued controversy over ICE.
One group of protesters also set off smoke bombs and firecrackers around 800 metres from the Olympic Village.
Police say six people were arrested.
It comes after Italy's Ministry of Transport said the train network in the north was hit by an act of "serious sabotage".
Nobody claimed responsibility for the incident near Bologna.
Many protesters were demonstrating against the environmental impact of the games, carrying cardboard cutouts of trees to represent the trees that were felled to build the new bobsled run in Cortina for the games.
The use of snow cannons and heavy infrastructure has also been criticised.
