OFFICIAL: Conor McGregor’s next fight has been announced

It's finally on.

Conor McGregor will face off against Khabib Nurmagomedov on 6 October in Las Vegas at UFC 229.

The explosive announcement was made at the very end of the UFC 25th anniversary press conference in Los Angeles on Friday night.

Beforehand, McGregor teased the inevitable with a short, typically provocative clip on Twitter that amounted to little more than him cackling and screaming for the camera like a horror movie villain.

MMA journalist Ariel Helwani teased "the biggest fight in MMA history" on Twitter before the press conference, and it appeared that an anticlimax was on the cards.

Dana White initially provided a fake-out by claiming that the deal wasn't done but he expected it would come together soon. 30 minutes later, the truth was revealed.

McGregor had previously teased that the bout would take place in Las Vegas, just days after he avoided a jail sentence following a court appearance in New York.

McGregor appeared in court in Kings County Criminal Court in Brooklyn, charged with three counts of assault and one count of criminal mischief for his actions at the UFC 223 media day in April.

A plea deal was entered. All felony counts were dismissed and McGregor was found guilty of a disorderly conduct charge.

He was given five days of community service and ordered to attend anger management classes. He was also issued with three orders of protection.

McGregor was also ordered to pay restitution for the damage made to the bus.
