Southgate has included some new names
Gareth Southgate has named his England squad for their four Nations League fixtures, set to be played in June, which includes first-time call ups for Jarrod Bowen and James Justin.
The new call ups
Bowen has been in excellent form at club level for West Ham United this season, scoring 18 goals and assisting 13 times in all competitions as he helped the Hammers secure a top-seven finish and a run to the semi finals of the Europa League.
The 25-year-old’s form has been hot conversation, with many feeling he was hard done by when Southgate didn’t include him in his squad for the international break in March.
There’s also another first-time call up for James Justin of Leicester City. Southgate worked with Justin at Under-21 level and is a huge fan of the 24-year-old’s versatility across the pitch.
Justin can comfortably play at both full back positions, both sides of a three-man defence and is even capable of playing higher up the pitch if needed.
The former Luton Town man was almost called up by Southgate however the plan was abandoned after Justin suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury – returning to first team action in the 3-2 defeat at home to Tottenham Hotspur in January.
A return for Tomori
Fresh from helping AC Milan win their first Serie A title in 11 years, Fikayo Tomori has finally received his long-awaited recall to the national team set up.
Tomori has been one of the stars of the season in Italy, with many left confused why it has taken Southgate so long to integrate him into the fold. The former Chelsea man is highly thought of and will finally have chance to prove himself on the international stage.
Manchester United duo Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho meanwhile are not included in the squad, sparking questions about if both will be named in the final squad for the Qatar World Cup.
