One of the most unlikely match-ups in the fight business seems to be moving one step closer to reality.

The T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas have put June 10 hold for a potential bout between Conor McGregor and Floyd Mayweather, according to reports.

Sources close to FloCombat confirmed that the 20,000 capacity arena has put the date on hold for the fight, which has been the source of a mountain of speculation in recent months.

As the report on FloCombat.com sought to stress, the fact that the date has been put on hold is by no means a guarantee that it will go ahead, but it will only fan speculation that the fight will happen, particularly after Mayweather said he was “officially” out of retirement to fight McGregor and called it for it to go ahead in June.

“Today, I’m officially out of retirement for Conor McGregor,” Mayweather said over the weekend.

“We don’t need to waste no time. We need to make this s**t happen quickly. Let’s get it on in June.”

The T-Mobile Arena has been open for less than a year, but it has hosted a series of high-profile events in the last 11 months, including a fight between Canelo Álvarez and Amir Khan last May and Conor McGregor’s rematch victory over Nate Diaz at UFC 202 in August.

Earlier this month, meanwhile, it also played host to UFC 209, where Tyron Woodley defeated Stephen Thompson in the main event.

We wouldn’t go booking flights to Las Vegas or anything until there’s official confirmation of a potential McGregor v Mayweather bout and, if only to put an end to the constant speculation, the sooner that arrives, the better.
